artful business
The Business of Art can be complex, each artist's practice and business is unique, one size doesn't fit all, but there are things we can learn and share with each other.

Archiving my work
I'm a happy archiving squirrel! - Annie
2015 was a year for me to up my game and get organized. I spent quite a lot of time (more time than I wanted) trying to find the right software to maintain an inventory and archive of my work. I asked other artists I knew what they were using, looked on art blogs for recommendations, looked to arts organizations for advice. Asked art coaches, googled art inventory systems, and tried a few on trial. What I learned was it is an individual choice and it is important to choose what works best for your budget, your brain, and your practice. I ended up choosing a web based, affordable, attractive and relatively versatile cloud based system artworkarchive.com. they have very good customer service and are always working to develop their product. It serves my need and didn't break the bank and I can access my archive from any mobile device.
In my research I came across a useful resource from the JMF Foundation Creating a Living Legacy (CALL) resource website there are several guides to download on archiving and documenting your career.

B-School
Creating a purpose driven art business - Laura
I have been in a magical stage of nurturing and transcendence since joining Marie Forleo’s B-School. My mind is overflowing with ideas like a river after a long winter. The course work in B-School is both innovative and creative. It is making me pause, take stock of where I am and helping me build a solid foundation for where I want to go with my collaborative work with Tina and my own art business. Marie designed this course for anyone wanting to create and grow a purpose driven business~a business created beyond personal gain, a business that is built to make a difference in the world.
This is what I have always strived to do but I didn’t have the road map to get there. B-School is giving me this map for the business side of things while staying true to my highest values, love, connection, integrity, self-discovery, positivity, gratitude for the beauty I find in the world, creativity, compassion and trust in something greater than myself guiding me.

Circle of Success
Makes so much sense! - Annie
I came across this graphic via facebook, where I follow Alyson Stanfield Art Biz coach. She created this pie chart called a circle of success for artists to replace the standard ladder of success. She states "Rather than the metaphor of steps or ladders, I’ve adopted the circle to explain how I think art businesses and careers expand. I believe that at any one point in your art business, most of your energy is focused in one of the areas identified in this circle.
You bounce back and forth inside the circle as your focus changes, depending on your goals and obligations. You might remain in one focus area for three months or three days. Then you return to it later because you don’t have one exhibition or one planning session and call it good. You do many of the same things month after month and year after year to build your business. As your business expands your circle expands".
